On 14th October 2012, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) has successfully organized the charity run, cycle and bazaar through BIBD Charity Expedition for ALAF.
Human tide of about 5,000 enthusiastic and compassionate runners, cyclist and participating vendors of all level has participated in this event in supporting this benevolent event’s objective to raise funds for BIBD ALAF. Carrying the tagline “One Step, One Pedal, One Education”, the charity drive aims to help underprivileged students in their educational progression through a systematic sponsorship scheme under the BIBD ALAF programme.
ALAF, which stands for Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspiring Future is a programme designed to cater the underprivileged students in their educational progression through a systematic sponsorship scheme in a way by contributing back to the country.
With one of the nation’s major aspirations being to build a well-educated and highly skilled human resources, BIBD feels obligated to play a role to support the nation’s plans by providing opportunities of educational progression to these underprivileged students through the BIBD ALAF programme. This not be a one-time programme but a long-term one.
The Charity Expedition have featured five different categories namely 2.5km Fun Run, 5km Run, 10km Run, 21km Half-Marathon and a 53km Cycling Expedition.
The 10km Run and the 21km Half-Marathon are competitive races where the runners can win marathon packages to Melbourne, Hongkong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu. First, second and third prize winners will also receive an exclusive winners t-shirt together with winning medals. Participants for the 10km and 21km categories have received finishers medal upon completing the race within a set time.
Through this expedition, it is hope to promote a healthy lifestyle as well as to encourage public awareness through fitness on the aims of the programme.
