OVER 6,000 people thronged the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium yesterday morning to support BIBD’s flagship event for its ALAF programme, the Charity Expedition (CE) for ALAF 2013.
The event started the night before with the BIBD Midnight Marathon, which had a selected group of 25 contestants running a full 42km marathon. After Subuh prayers, participants made their way to the assembly area to prepare themselves for the challenge that they had set out for.
Brunei’s own Olympian, Maziah Mahusin, was given the honour to flag-off the first event of the morning, the 21km run, while BIBD Managing Director, Javed Ahmad, officiated the start of the 10km run.
The 5km event continued and was flagged off by Awg Junaidi bin Hj Masri, Assistant Managing Director, Brunei Investment Agency (BIA), which was followed by Dr Abdul Manaf bin Hj Metussin, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) launching the 2.5km category.
Hjh Nurul Akmar binti Hj Mohd Ja’afar, Deputy Head of Consumer Banking Division and head of the BIBD Corporate Responsibility Team completed the flagging off with the launching of the cycling expedition.
The BIBD CE-ALAF was graced by His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Wakeel, who managed to finish the 5km run in 37 minutes, along with Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah, who finished the race 20 minutes later.
