BIBD HOSTS ALAF TEACHERS APPRECIATION NIGHT

More than 50 HEP Teachers involved in Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam’s (BIBD) ALAF programme attended an appreciation night event organised by the Bank. The event was held to recognise the contributions of ALAF Student Welfare Teachers in supporting the primary and secondary education of the young underprivileged Bruneians.

BIBD Head of Government Relations and Special Projects, who was also guest of honor, Hj Minorhadi bin Hj Mirhassan presented awards, including commemorative plaques and cash rewards, to recognise the contributions of teachers who have gone above and beyond their current responsibilities in support of ALAF students.

In addition, all invited HEP teachers received a certificate of appreciation, in recognition of their dedication. With the support of dedicated teachers, 7 ALAF students have scored 5A’s in their PSR examinations in 2015, and the Bank looks forward to supporting more deserving students in the future.

Fifteen bright underprivileged students enrolled in Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam’s Advocating Life -Long Learning For An Aspiring Future (ALAF) programme were recently rewarded for their academic achievements with a four day educational trip to discover Singapore.

Singapore was the chosen destination as it gave students an opportunity to broaden their worldview and learn how the city-state transformed itself into an advanced and dynamic economy.

The trip will inspire Brunei’s young leaders of tomorrow to achieve Brunei’s Vision 2035, transforming Brunei Darussalam into a nation widely recognized for the accomplishments of its well-educated and highly skilled people, high quality of life, as well as a dynamic and sustainable economy.

During the educational trip, students kept a daily journal to document their visit. Reflecting on their experience, students discussed what can be put into practice base on their observations while retaining their Bruneian values, during a sharing session held at the end of the trip.

Accompanied by ALAF Taskforce teachers and BIBD officers, the students visited major landmarks and attractions including Singapore’s Science Centre, the National Museum and Universal Studios.

To further better serve Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD)’s ALAF (Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspiring Future) programme, the team has moved to their new office in the capital at the PGGMB building.

In conjunction with the move to the new office, a thanksgiving and Tahlil prayers was held to bless this important milestone for the ALAF programme.

The event was attended by representatives from Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), as well as BIBD management and staff.

The upgrade of facilities for the ALAF programme team comes at an appropriate time as the programme now houses more than one hundred students.

This means that the team has more capabilities and opportunities to facilitate better activities for the programme.

BIBD held a closing ceremony for its learning camps at the Orchid Garden Hotel for its Holiday English Language Program (HELP) Camps organised for the BIBD ALAF programme students. The learning camps also included a refresher camp for this year’s forty-six students recently introduced into the ALAF programme.

The camps were aimed to further support the development and progression of students under the BIBD ALAF programme, help build their self-confidence, develop their communication capabilities, and instil a sense of appreciation of the aims of the ALAF program.

The HELP camps were organised with the cooperation of CfBT to deliver bespoke English training camps for BIBD ALAF programme students. The HELP camps also included lectures, debate sessions, hands-on and task-based activities to promote teamwork. The camps are also designed to foster a ‘can do’ belief in their English abilities and to establish good learner training habits.

To further support the development and progression of students under the BIBD ALAF programme, BIBD has arranged learning camps to help build their self-confidence, develop their communication capabilities, and instil a sense of appreciation of the aims of the ALAF program.

The learning camps are divided into three camps with the first, Refresher Camp, starting on 26 March. The Refresher Camp is specially organised for the latest forty-six students who were recently awarded and included into the ALAF programme for 2016.

On the other hand, the second and third camps, the H.E.L.P (Holiday English Language Programme) camps, are arranged for around eighty students. These camps are organised with the cooperation of the CfBT to deliver bespoke English training camps for the BIBD ALAF programme students

The H.E.L.P camps include lectures, hands-on and task-based activities to promote teamwork. The camps are also designed to foster a ‘can do’ belief in their English abilities and to establish good learner training habits.

BIBD handed over its BIBD ALAF (Advocating Life -long Learning for an Aspiring Future) programme scholarships to 46 recipients from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and Ministry of Education as well as even special needs students from the Ministy of Education’s the Special Education Unit at the Indera Samudera Hall, The Empire Hotel & Country Club in Jerudong.

Present as the guest of honour to handover the BIBD ALAF scholarships to the recipients was Yang erhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin Bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs.

The ALAF programme was developed in close partnership with the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, and in 2015 a Memorandum of Understanding was also signed with the Islamic Studies Department from the Ministry of Religious Affairs that will lead to constant efforts and close collaboration between all parties, to ensure the successful implementation and provision of assistance to the ALAF programme.

This year’s addition means that the ALAF programme now has over a hundred students.

BIBD celebrated students and teachers of its ALAF programme with the handing over of certificates of appreciation to the ALAF task force, and a presentation of incentive rewards to PSR students who excelled in their 2015 examination.

The certificates were handed over by guest of honor, Yang Mulia Haji Minorhadi bin Haji Mirhassan, Head of Government Relations and Special Projects.

The event was held to appreciate the tremendous support given to the BIBD ALAF Programme by the ALAF Task Force, made up of officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs; in ensuring that the well-being and educational needs of the ALAF students, at primary, secondary and pre-university levels, are well taken care of.
